Also known as cumin or cumin seeds and Roman caraway, cumin is a plant from the umbelliferae family whose dried fruits are used as a spiceand is a popular ingredient in Middle Eastern, Asian, Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine. This Indian spice is used as the main ingredient in most curry powders and many savory spice blends, as well as in stews, grilled dishes, especially with lamb, and in Indian dishes with chicken.

Nine types of antioxidants are found in cumin, including manganese, copper, zinc, selenium, vitamin E, vitamin C, lutein, vitamin B9 and beta-carotene. It has antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties that are effective in curing fever. It eliminates oxidative stress and inhibits disease.
